What is a Global Impact Challenge (GIC)?

A platform to identify outstanding entrepreneurs, leaders, scientists, and engineers with the most innovative ideas that can positively impact a billion people in 10 years.

How would you leverage exponential technologies to address Australia’s grand challenges in energy, environment, food, shelter, space, water, disaster resilience, governance, health, learning, prosperity and security?

Overview
The purpose of the SingularityU Australia Global Impact Challenge is to foster entrepreneurs, startups and anyone with moonshot ideas to have positive impact. We intend to improve the lives of Australians and scale the moonshot to impact a billion people worldwide in 10 years.

What moonshot can you imagine that would solve a global grand challenge using exponential technology?

Why host a Global Impact Challenge in Australia?
Australia is the only continent country on this planet and Australians have always been innovative and creative individuals. We strive and thrive through adversity and necessity. This is the first Australian SingularityU Global Impact Challenge and we are excited to showcase just how amazing we are on a global landscape.

Applications are NOW OPEN.

Selected applicants will be invited to pitch at selected venues around the country in February 2019.

Finalists will be selected and offered the opportunity to attend a GIC Bootcamp in Canberra. The Bootcamp will help prepare each finalist for the final pitch to the international judging panel.

The current timeline for the confirmed Global Impact Challenge 1B Events is as follows:

  • Tuesday December 18 - Soft Launch Impact 1B Event
  • Wednesday 6th - 8th February - Pause Fest Impact IB Events
  • Tuesday 12th February - Work Club Barangaroo Impact 1B Event 
  • Wednesday 13th February - Sydney School Entrepreneurship 1B Event
  • Monday 18th February - Perth Impact 1B Event Curtin University
  • Thursday 21st February - Newcastle Impact 1B Event 
  • Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th February - Bootcamp for finalists 
  • Wednesday 27th February - Finale Impact 1B - Melbourne
     

 

How would this improve the lives of millions of people in Australia and around the globe in 5 – 10 years?

The prize
The winner of this challenge will secure a full scholarship to attend Singularity University’s Global Startup Program (GSP) starting in April 2019.

The GSP helps future-focused entrepreneurs transform radical ideas into a tangible impact on a global scale. It’s a structured, immersive program offering startup-focused educational resources and world-class mentorship from SU’s faculty, staff, and industry experts—in a safe, nurturing environment. The program aims to scale startups into global businesses. We want to inspire you to solve the world’s biggest challenges and impact the lives of a billion people.
